Hasn’t your mom always been there for you? So Mother’s Day is the perfect time to make her feel extra special and show your appreciation for all she’s done for you. The typical mother gets a card and flowers on this special occasion, which is, without question, a lovely gift. But your mother is one of a kind. Don’t you think she’s worth more? She deserves a thoughtfully prepared Mother’s Day gift basket.

Start by finding a Mother’s Day gift basket that is large enough for all of the things that you want to include in it. Look for a basket that your mom will be able to use again, over and over. Once you find the ideal basket, you can paint it in her favorite colors and decorate it. Make sure it is completely dry before filling it with goodies.

Line the bottom of the basket with a nice napkin or piece of cloth. Make sure the fabric matches the decorated basket. You can also wind some matching ribbon around the basket handle and glue some artificial flowers onto it. This will give the basket a feminine, springtime look and feel.

Fill the basket with some of mom’s favorite things. You will need to choose one large item to be the basket’s centerpiece. Place this item in the center of the Mother’s Day gift basket and position it so that it sits steady and will not shift or slide while you’re carrying it. This centerpiece could include flowers, a stuffed toy, a meaningful figurine, or even a picture of the family.

Once you have your centerpiece in place, you can then add the other articles. Position the remaining item around the centerpiecein such a way that they complement the centerpiece nicely. The additional items might include some chocolates, scented tealights, some bath bubbles or salts, or anything else that your mom loves. A special addition to your Mother’s Day basket would be individual pictures of the members of your family. If you’re going all out, slip in a gift certificate to her local day spa.

As a final touch, cover your Mother’s Day basket with cellophane wrap in a lovely color or a special gift basket bag, and top it off with a large bow. Don’t forget the Mother’s Day card. You can attach this with tape just under the bow near the top of the basket. Mom will be thrilled when you present her with this striking gift basket. And the icing on the cake will be that you made it yourself!
